Automation Tester

Contract: 6 months initially, with potential for extension
Start: ASAP
Location: Dublin / Hybrid
Experience: 8+ years

Must have stamp 4 or EU passport

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a high-performing Quality Engineering team within a global payments technology environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for a strong Java developer with hands-on automation experience to work on a high-volume, highly scalable decision management platform supporting fraud prevention and cardholder identity validation.

The role sits firmly within Software Engineering rather than traditional QA. You will be expected to design and develop software, build automated testing frameworks, improve CI/CD pipelines and work closely with developers, architects and product teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable Java applications and services.
  • Develop robust automated testing frameworks and test infrastructure.
  • Build automated UI, API, integration and end-to-end tests.
  • Work extensively with Selenium WebDriver, REST Assured and TestNG/Spock.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects and product owners to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contribute to code reviews and improve coding standards, performance, security and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and integrate automated testing into the delivery lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues and contribute to performance and reliability improvements.
  • Use tools such as SonarQube and code coverage frameworks to improve software quality.
  • Work with cloud-based applications and distributed systems.
  • Champion engineering best practices, automation and continuous improvement within an Agile environment.

What We're Looking For

You will have 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on Java development and a genuine passion for automation and software quality.

Essential Experience

  • Strong Java development experience, ideally including Spring Boot.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver and API automation using REST Assured.
  • Experience with TestNG, Spock, JUnit and/or Mockito.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, JSON and XML.
  • Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally Jenkins or Bamboo.
  • Strong Git and modern source-control practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based applications.
  • Strong SQL and relational database experience, ideally Oracle.
  • Experience with performance, scalability and reliability engineering.
  • Good understanding of software design principles, OOP and data structures.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with distributed systems and in-memory technologies such as Pivotal GemFire.
  • Experience with SonarQube and code quality/coverage tools.
  • Payments, financial services or other high-volume transaction environments.
  • Experience working with highly scalable, low-latency platforms.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to work on technology operating at massive scale, within a sophisticated engineering environment where software development, automation and quality are treated as one discipline.

You will gain exposure to:

  • High-volume, high-performance payment technology.
  • Fraud prevention and decision management platforms.
  • Modern Java and cloud technologies.
  • Enterprise-scale automation and CI/CD.
  • Distributed systems and performance engineering.
  • A global engineering environment working with some of the most demanding technology challenges in payments.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for a Senior Java Engineer who codes and also has strong automation expertise - someone who can work alongside developers as an engineering peer rather than a traditional manual QA/tester.

If you enjoy building software, automating everything possible and solving complex performance and reliability challenges, this role could be an excellent fit.
